Congress and Telugu Desam Party registered surprise victories in the strongholds of Telangana Rashtra Samithi. TRS lost 9 Assembly seats of which Congress won in 5 and TDP won in 4 segments. Congress showed surprise performance in Nizamabad district due to good strategy by PCC president D. Sreenivas. Telugu Desam lost Jadcherla, Yellareddy and Alair due to factions within the Party but narrowly won in Khanapur. Congress victory in Vikarabad by 28,000 margin is a big setback for Devender Goud of TDP.
Telangana Assembly by-elections:
Total seats: 16
TRS: 7; Congress: 6; TDP: 5.
TRS won in Siddipet, Dommat, Huzurabad, Kamalapur, Medaram, Cheriyal and Alair.
TDP won in Ramayampet, Khanapur, Secunderabad and Station Ghanpur.
Congress won in Jadcherla, Vikarabad, Musheerabad, Khairathabad and Yellareddy and Dichpalli.
Election records:
1. P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy created sensational record by winning over 1,80,000 votes in Khairathabad segment. This is the highest ever margin in Andhra Pradesh Assembly election history.
2. Congress party won in Jadcherla, Dichpalli and Vikarabad after a long gap of 20 years. Congress never won in Dichpalli after 1978 elections.
3. Harish Rao of TRS won in Siddipet by a massive margin of over 58,000 votes.
4. Loksatta is in second place in Khairathabad while TRS stood at third place.
5. TRS candidate lost deposit in Vikarabad constituency.
6. TDP stood in second place in 7 segments while TRS is in third place in 6 segments.
7. BJP lost in Musheerabad due to Congress master strategy. TDP overestimated TRS strength in some segments but Congress fought till the last minute.
