TRS contested in 2009 Assembly polls in alliance with Telugu Desam party and communist parties. Congress and BJP contested in all 12 Assembly segments. TRS won in ten segments while BJP won in Nizamabad segment and TDP captured Vemulawada. In 2009 elections, TRS won in 2 segments by narrow margin while it narrowly lost 2-3 segments in Warangal.
What happened in 2009 Assembly elections?
1. Siddipet: TRS candidate Harish Rao defeated Congress candidate B. Anjaiah by a margin of 64,677 votes. In by-polls, he is expected to win by a margin of more than 70,000 votes.
2. Nizamabad Urban: BJP candidate, Lakshmi Narayana defeated PCC President D. Srinivas by 11,015 votes by capitalising on the religious remarks made by Srinivas during election campaign.
3. Yellareddy: TRS candidate, Ravinder Reddy defeated Congress candidate B. Janardhan Goud by a margin of 36,859 votes.
4. Warangal West: TRS candidate, Vinaya Bhasker defeated Congress candidate Dayasagar Rao by 6,684 votes.
5. Sirpur: TRS candidate Kaveti Sammaiah defeated Congress candidate Koneru Konappa by a margin of 7,414 votes.
6. Chennur (SC): TRS candidate Nallala Odelu defeated Congress candidate G. Vinod by 11,549 votes.
7. Mancherial: TRS candidate Aravinda Reddy defeated Diwakar Rao by a margin of 13,827 votes.
8. Koratla: TRS candidate Vidyasagar Rao defeated Congress candidate Ratnakar Rao by 15,545 votes.
9. Huzurabad: TRS candidate and party floor leader, Eatala Rajender defeated Congress candidate Krishna Mohan Rao by a margin of 15,035 votes.
10. Dharmapuri (SC): TRS candidate Koppula Eshwar defeated Congress candidate Laxman kumar by just 1484 votes.
11. Sircilla: KCR son Tarakarama Rao defeated independent candidate (TRS rebel), K. Mahender Reddy by just 171 votes.
12. Vemulawada: TDP Candidate Ch. Ramesh defeated Congress candidate, V. Adi Srinivas by 1989 votes.
According to NTV-Nielsen survey, TRS is expected to retain 9-10 seats while there will be tight contest between BJP and Congress in Nizamabad urban segment.
