Penamaluru is a newly formed Assembly segment after de-limitation exercise in 2008 by including areas from old Kankipadu and Vuyyuru constituencies. Most of the areas in this constituency are on either side of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam highway and is easy nearer to Vijayawada but was included in the Machilipatnam parliament constituency. Rice and Sugarcane are major crops in this segment but real estate is booming in this area due to proximity to national highway and Vijayawada.
