Venkatagiri was the capital of Venkatagiri kingdom which was established in 1600 and was ruled by Velugoti dynasty until 1949. Venkatagiri MLA Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy became chief minister in 1990 – glorious moment in the constituency history. Venkatagiri is famous for the cotton handloom sarees. Venkatagiri was added to the Madras state in 1949.
