Guntur is one of the most politically active cities in Andhra pradesh even when there are no elections. Muslims are dominant in Guntur East while Kapu and Kammas are dominant in Guntur West. Even though Muslims are dominant group (population wise) in the city, Kamma and Kapu leaders are enjoying Mayor post due to indirect elections.

Result: Congress party corporator, Kanna Naga Raju is elected as the Mayor while Tadisetti Murali Mohan of Congress is elected as Deputy Mayor. Congress party won in 23 wards in Guntur-1 where muslims are dominant in numbers while it won in just 5 wards in Guntur-2.
