Nellore town is also called as Simhapuri and is located on the banks of Penna river. Nellore municipality was upgraded to Municipal Corporation in 2004 and the first corporation elections were held in 2005. Even though Telugu Desam won in more number of wards, Congress party won the municipal chairman election with the help of ex-officio mebers. CPM and BJP also has significant vote bank in Nellore town.

Highlights:
1. Anam family has strong grip over this municipal corporation. Anam Vivekanda Reddy who elected as municipal vice-chairman in 1982 and also elected as municipal chairman in 1985. He elected as MLA in 2004 and 2009 (Nellore rural).
2. A.C. Subba Reddy was elected as Nellore municipal chairman in 1937, 1949, 1952, 1959. He played crucial role in state politics as MLA of Nellore and Rapur. He died of Cancer in 1967.
