Nizamabad Corporation

Nizamabad was previously called as “Indrapuri/Indur” and is derived its name from Nizam of Hyderabad. Along with caste, religion also plays crucial role in Nizamabad city politics. But, Telangana sentiment is now dominating electoral politics in the Nizamabad city. Muslims have strong vote bank in many wards and generally vote for Congress party.

Due to lack of proper strategy, TDP lost most of its base in the Municipal corporation. PRP, Lok Satta and communist parties have no significant base in the city. MIM has some influence over muslim votes.

Result: It will be a direct contest between Congress & TRS-BJP alliance.

2010 Nizamabad Urban Assembly by-poll results:

Result: BJP got 11,981 majority over Congress in the Urban segment. TRS supported BJP candidate in the by-election. TDP candidate lost the deposit.

2009 Nizamabad Urban Assembly election results:

Result: BJP got 11,015 votes majority over Congress in the Urban segment. TDP supported TRS in the general election but its candidate lost the deposit.

2005 Nizamanad Corporation Election results:

Result: Congress party corporator, Dharmapuri Sanjay is elected as the first Mayor of Nizamabad Corporation. Sanjay was elected from ward no. 36 (Beedi workers colony). Sanjay is the son of senior Congress leader, Dharmapuri Srinivas.
