Vijayawada corporation

Vijayawada (Bezawada) is the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh and is located on the banks of Krishna river. Vijayawada became municipality in 1888 and was upgraded to municipal corporation in 1981. Vijayawada is the political capital of Andhra Pradesh and was once notorious for Kamma-Kapu caste feuds. Vijayawada once used to be Communist party bastion but communists are gradually losing grip over the city.

Political development: Emergenece of Prajarajyam party changed political equations in the city. PRP won in Vijayawada East & Vijayawada West and stood second in Vijayawada Central.

2005 Vijayawada city corporation Election results: 

Result: CPI corporator, Tadi Sakunthala is elected as Mayor while Congress corporator, Cherukuri Krishana Kumar is Deputy Mayor.

2000 Vijayawada city corporation Election results:

Result: Congress party won the maximum number of wards but Telugu Desam won the Mayor post in a direct election. P. Anuradha of TDP is the new Mayor.
