Anantapur is a Municipal corporation which derived its name from a local tank called ”Anantasagaram.” Anantapur corporation is traditionally considered as Congress stronghold. Communists lost grip over city after the emergence of Teugu Desam party. Even though Prajarajyam party got around 30,000 votes in the city, it lost base after elections.
