Eluru city which was once called as “Helapuri” became headquarter of West Godavari district in 1925. Eluru became municipality in 1866 and was upgraded to municipal corporation in 2005. Eluru population was just 33,000 in 1911 but crossed 2 lakh in 2000. Prajarajyam party canddiate stood second in 2009 Assembly elections and pushed Telugu Desam to third place as Kapu voters voted en masse for PRP. In Eluru corporation, Congress, PRP and TDP have strong vote banks and it will be a tight race.
But, Eluru MLA, Alla Nani is supporting Y.S. Jagan – so, things will drastically change if Y.S. Jagan forms a new political party. It may benefit PRP and TDP due to split in Congress votebank.
