Vijayawada (Bezawada) is the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh and is located on the banks of Krishna river. Vijayawada became municipality in 1888 and was upgraded to municipal corporation in 1981. Vijayawada is the political capital of Andhra Pradesh and was once notorious for Kamma-Kapu caste feuds. Vijayawada once used to be Communist party bastion but communists are gradually losing grip over the city.
