Greater Visakha corporation (GVMC)

 

 

 

Visakhapatnam (Waltair) became municipality in 1858 and was upgraded to Municipal corporation. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) was constituted in November, 2005 by merging Gajuwaka municipality and 32 gram panchayats with Vizag corporation. Vizianagaram rajas played vital role in the early development of the city.

 

 

Vizag population was just 43,000 in 1911 and crossed 13 lakh in 2000. Kakinada and Rajahmundry were more populous towns than Vizag in 1911. Visakhapatnam is one of the fastest growing cities in India.
