Warangal municipality was formed in 1934 and was upgraded to municipal corporation in 1994. City derived its name from Orugallu and it was the capital city of Kakatiya kings. Warangal is one of the most politically active cities in Andhra Pradesh and is the epicentre of Telangana movement.
