Kandukur municipality

Kandukur town was subdivision head quarter in Nellore district in Madras state during British rule. Kandukur town population was just 9,500 in 1900. It was a weaving centre till 1940 and was also under muslim rule for some years. Boyas used to dominate town politics till 19th century. But, Kammas and Reddys have insurmoutable grip over town and constituency in the last 50 years. Muslims constitute 25% of town population till 1930 but they are now less than 10% of population due to migration of other communities from surrounding villages to the town.

Praja Rajyam (PRP) failed to show any impact in the town as voters were split vertically between Telugu Desam and Congress. There is no chance for third party in either town or constituency.
