Gorantla is a Telugu Desam party stronghold. It was once Assembly headquarter but mandal was included in the Penukonda Assembly constituency which is also a TDP bastion.
Despite Reddy community domination, Congress Party failed to dominate mandal politics. Praja Rajyam has no influence in the mandal.
